Default DIY Iki Jimi kill spike

Had to do something with the other piece of that stainless steel spatula

not a great tool, but I'll put a bungee on it and that will keep in on a dive belt, a decent loaner or spare to keep in the yak

Without a sheath and on the belt, make sure you don't end up stabbing your self. That cork will be gone the first time you use it on a fish. One hand holding the fish, the other the knife...............where is the cork?????????? floating away. Just be careful.

You know how to make a sheath from PVC I'm sure.

Hey that's a Publix spatula

I think it's a redundant piece of gear if you already have a knife. I think it's supposed to be for fish so big that they're hard to dispatch with a knife. The conventional iki jimi is round just like a spear. I'm too lazy to reach for my knife most of the time so I either brain with the shark spike or spear if it's a pass through. A bigger fish will require the knife. If it's a hard headed fish then it's gill ripping time. A cuda I'll gut to kill if I have time. Maybe there's a gap in my experience because I've never seen where the spike would've come handy.

I was told how in the old days prison guards in some remote areas of the USSR would carry one of those shanks, in case they feel the need to kill an inmate they'd plant it on the body after to say that it was self defense.

Thanks for the advice...I was going to make a pvc cover that will attach via the bungee, so I dont stab myself and so I dont lose the top

I agree Dan, it is un-necessary, but I wasn't going to was a bit of SS and I figured this way Ican keep this on the yak so if I swim up with a fish I haven't brained yet, there is another tool on the yak.

maybe I'll just add this to my filing skills as another one to save for my trip to the big house

good tutorial

I always use the invisible triangle rule...

from above looking at the fish, imagine an equilateral triangle with the two eyes as the base and where the third corner would be, stab downward and wiggle a bit..wait for shake

here is a terrible picture to confuse you further
